JEWELRY DESIGN: WEDDING RING - WIDE REEDED CIGAR BAND
Personal Work, June 2023
Overview
When we got married, I didn't know what to do about a ring. Not for her - for me. I dug for ages online, through eBay & auction sites, into the depths of Etsy and Pinterest to no avail. When it came down to it, what I wanted just didn't exist anymore. Simply put, I needed a time machine to travel back and find an heirloom from another age. What I came back with is18-karat wide reeded cigar band, a personal design inspired by the bold aesthetics of 1960s jewelry. A fusion of AI exploration and traditional craftsmanship, this piece is by far & away my favorite, and a totem of commitment to my wife.
Challenge
How to translate a deeply personal vision into a physical object? I needed to bridge the gap between abstract inspiration and precise execution, ensuring the final piece captured the essence of my desired piece.
Solution
Taking a multi-faceted approach. I began with sketching and in-depth research through print and web, then leveraged Midjourney to generate a visual style reference. This was followed by detailed wireframe sketches providing multiple perspectives for the jeweler. Finally, I partnered with The Jewelry Store on Broadway in San Antonio, bringing my digital creation to life through expert craftsmanship.
Outcome
It's exactly what I wanted. Nearly 1:1. A perfect blend of minimal, almost industrial appeal that feels understated and timeless, along side a sort of hollywood regency era flash that comes with
Toolset
Sketching, design research, AI-powered image generation (Midjourney), wireframe design, and collaborative partnership with a local jeweler.
Next Steps
Exploring the intersection of AI and traditional craftsmanship in future personal projects, I plan to create more personal accessories in the jewelry & horology space.
